The truth about LinkedIn recommendations – FP Executive Blog – Some good things to keep in mind when you’re building your Linked In profile. Not all recommendations are created equal – and not all of them will help in the end.
Did Google just sneakily launch a Facebook killer? – Slate Magazine – Farhad Manjoo takes a look at Google’s new profile option, which lets you control your brand in Google (to some extent). It could be a Facebook killer – or at leats be a new place you need to keep an eye on your brand.
As newspapers die, journalism schools turn online to find new life – Great article from a journalism educator about the need for change in teaching our next generation of journalists.

6 Easy To Use ReTweeting Tips | Blog of Mr. Tweet – Good tips for re-tweeting and how to get re-tweeted. They’re no-brainers for experienced Twitterers, but a good quick verview for newbies.
Comments on news stories a double-edged sword – As a person who manages a newspaper website’s commenting community, I can also attest to the fact that there are very strong pros and cons to having comments on your stories. This is a good study on the subject and worth a read for any journalist.
Google Unveils New Tool To Dig for Public Data – washingtonpost.com – Reporters should be able to take advantage of Google’s data efforts in reporting CAR stories.
Google Starts Twittering News Headlines — InformationWeek – The Twittering is only the beginning. Content providers that aren’t pushing news now should be very worried.
Check Username Availability at Multiple Social Networking Sites – An amazing (and lightning fast) tool that helps you search common usernames across social networking sites. Check to see if your brand or name is available – or sneak a peek at where else your contacts have accounts.

Why journalists should learn to code (and why some shouldn’t bother) :: 10,000 Words – “Those who choose to adhere to long-standing forms of print or broadcast journalism shouldn’t fret, but know that there will come a time when basic coding will become an integral part of a journalist’s duties. It’s better to jump on the bandwagon now than to be left in the dust later on.”
Seattle ‘P-I’ Sinks Without Print Boost – In their Top 30 Newspaper Sites for March, Editor & Publisher makes the point that online-only newspapers aren’t quite making it with audiences just yet. Do they need print to survive? That remains to be seen.
How To Increase Your Chances of a Twitter Follow Back | John Chow dot Com – A lot of this is what I would consider no brainers, but worth a quick read anyway. Disregard what he says about a custom Twitter background, though. You don’t have to pay for a professional background to get followers – you can always make your own or use a free one.
Overview: Key News Audiences Now Blend Online and Traditional Sources | Pew Center – This Pew study outlines Americans’ relationships with news, news consumption trends and which media seem to be doing best. Key takeaway: News is still necessary to a lot of Americans…and without online news/blogs, newspapers would be in worse shape than they are right now.
