The theory of paid content being in mobile has been floating around out there - and it may be a start to something bigger. I had a link somewhere on this blog about it at some point (damned if I can find it right now).

In regards to asking for ideas from staff - that's something every news outlet should have been doing years ago (but probably wasn't). I'm thankful my current editor is all about hearing people's brainstorms. We're actually planning a newsroom/external event based around getting new ideas on the future of the business. Should be fun.

Also, I understand that $10 a month doesn't pay for 1% of the production of the news people would receive in such a delivery method, or the dev. of the app in question. It'd probably be advertising-heavy, I suppose, which def. has its pros and cons.

I wonder if it's worth news sources focusing on making bank by developing paid delivery methods for mobile services. I'm not going to pay for access to news on the web, but I might pay, say 2 or 3 or 10 bux a month for a bold, well-put together iPhone app or mobile app that gives me multimedia news as it happens. Of course, the content would absolutely have to rock my world to pay like that.

It's probably also worth asking reporters and production crew for ideas on how to make newspapers awesome again--great ideas often find a way to bubble to the top when people are looking for them.
